24 October 2017 18:00Lebowski's - Antwerpen - Belgium

24/10 : CANCELLED

Because of practical reasons, we need to move the event to a later date. We'll communicate this as soon as possible.

Bought a ticket for the 24/10 edition already? We'll refund as soon as possible. Do get in touch with us for any questions you might have.

So Saloon.

Thingscon Saloon is an evening brought to life because we have been getting the feeling at other design related events that “we the designers” tend to take ourselves and our “responsibility towards the world” very seriously. In order to critically question that, we want to create an evening where inspiration and fun go hand in hand in a laid back atmosphere.

With this event, we want to experiment by presenting an evening where we poke some fun at our own design practice. When approached with an open mind, this should give inspiration and breathe some fresh air into what we do on a daily basis as designers and developers .

In case that plan doesn't work out, we will at least have had a good laugh and had some drinks in excellent company.

Our goal is to bring together a bunch of speakers who are entertaining, but at the same time will make you think about what is actually important when creating the products of tomorrow.

Language 🇧🇪

Important note! This event will be mostly Flemish (aka Dutch) speaking. When doing a comedy related event, subtlety of language is important. So our speakers will do their thing in their mother tongue. We did, however, chose to do all online communication in English - since the reach of the Thingscon community is global.

Thingscon?

ThingsCon fosters the creation of a human-centric & responsible IoT. To this end we provide practitioners with an open environment for reflection & collaborative action. It is a global community of practitioners around Internet of Things (IoT) and new hardware, as well as one of Europe’s leading conference networks in this field.

All you need to know

We're very happy to be able to host this event at Lebowski's comedy club in Antwerp. This venue allows us to create an atmosphere that is unlike other events. The character of the building and the more club-like setting will set the tone from the moment you walk in the door.

As a visitor and participant, be aware for some critical - honest - words and reflections. But also take into account to not harass people or organisations. This is by no means intended to be an event with a complementary ticket for "bashing" others.

We're charging a small fee for this event in order to minimise the amount of no-shows. All collected money will be fed back into the event and primarily used for catering.

Open mind, open attitude, broad smile.

How difficult can it be to provide services that people want to use? Everything becomes a service, but keeping tabs on how people want to use and interact with these services is often overlooked. Time to poke fun at some examples and learn along the way.

Serieus!?

With improvisation theater,  we make up the story, the characters and the dialogues on the spot. We will step onto the stage with a limited number of elements (suggestions from you, the audience), such as the location of the scene, the type of character we will play, and we will make up the rest as we go.

Exciting and always surprising…
